Will CoolSculpting® (Freeze Sculpting) Be Uncomfortable for Patients?

Will having CoolSculpting® to freeze fat cells be painful? Over the years since it was first introduced, CoolSculpting® has been referred to as many names such as “Cool Shaping,” “Fat Freezing,” “Fat Sculpting,” “Cold Fat Removal,” “Cryo Fat Freezing,” or “Ice Sculpting Fat.” Patients who are considering this freezing fat procedure sometimes assume that any kind of in-office procedure will be invasive and painful. Although everyone’s level of sensitivity is different, most patients do not find their CoolSculpting® body contouring treatments painful.

After outlining the areas we are treating, we place a gel pad on your skin and then the CoolSculpting® applicator on top. Many patients say that the sensation feels like a light vacuum pressure or sucking sensation when the applicator adheres to the body and intense cold, followed by the area feeling numb within five to ten minutes. In fact, patients are often able to watch their favourite shows, open emails, or even take a nap while their freeze sculpting session is going on. It’s common to experience a mild tugging, aching or stinging sensation but discomfort is generally minimal. Afterward, the treatment area may feel slightly tender when we massage it to help break up the frozen tissue.
