What is miraDry®?
MiraDry® is a non-invasive, non-surgical treatment that is designed to reduce excessive, unwanted sweating in the underarms. This treatment uses thermal energy to target bothersome underarm sweat and odor glands. The focalized heat from the miraDry® treatment removes the glands, in a process known as thermolysis. What Can I Expect During the miraDry® Treatment?
The procedure typically takes around one to two hours. The treatment is non-invasive. A handpiece is placed on the skin to produce thermal energy. miraDry® then gets rid of sweat and odor glands, while keeping the skin cool for maximum comfort. The thermal energy will also reduce unwanted underarm hair of all colors.
Underarm skin is first cleansed and numbed with local anesthesia for maximum comfort. The handpiece is then applied directly to the skin to deliver thermal energy. The device precisely delivers controlled thermal energy beneath the underarm skin to the specific location of the sweat glands.
There is minimal recovery time and normal activity can typically be resumed on the same day. Within a few days, you can resume exercise. The elimination of the sweat glands on the underarm areas will not have any impact on body thermoregulation and the normal sweating that occurs on other body parts will not be affected.

Will There Be Any Side Effects or Recovery Time After My miraDry® Treatment?
There may be some mild, temporary side effects such as swelling, redness, tenderness, and discomfort after miraDry®. These short-term side effects resolve quickly. There is little to no downtime. The results are instant and are expected to last for good, since the sweat glands do not regenerate. More than one treatment may be required for optimal results. Patients experience minimal discomfort during the procedure. It may be best to avoid heavy lifting, running, or exercise for at least one week after a session.
Don’t I Need to Sweat in my Underarms?
While your body does need sweat glands to cool itself, your body has 2-4 million sweat glands – only about 2% are found in your underarms. Eliminating this 2% of sweat glands does not affect your body’s ability to cool itself. With miraDry®, you will experience the many benefits of reducing sweat in the underarm area, but you will continue to sweat in other areas of your body.
